Vicki Lee-Victoria Episode 6 Married Life

This episode may make it seem like married life is boring life.  Actually, Scott and I rarely watch TV together (except Tru Blood lately,) but I thought it was a funny situation to draw.  I posted this episode just a day after the third anniversary of our first date.  To celebrate we made sandwiches, bought potatoe salad, and went out to High Park for a picnic dinner.

I can make fun because married life is far from boring.

Vicki Lee-Victoria:Meditation

It is true that meditating with an inner child running rampant is a pointless endeavor, yet I still try!

Vicki Lee Victoria - Episode 3

Everyone, please welcome ‘Victoria’, my inner-critic personified character.

Victoria is my given name, and actually, I do very much like that name, but I chose it for my inner-critic character because it sounds quite regal, which is exactly what Victoria is.

Victoria is proper, tidy, smart, and ambitious.  She’s also a little critical.  Even though this character seems a bit of a downer, she’ll bring some humour to the comic, I promise 😉

As a side note, as I continue to make these comic strips, I get slightly discouraged because the artwork has been really challenging.  I have been reading ‘how-to-draw’ cartoon books, but really I’m a bit of a hack in this department.  My hope is that the characters will have more dynamic movement and variety in the future, but for now, I am more interested in the dialog.   Be patient, the artistic part will – hopefully – come along eventually.

Vicki Lee - Victoria - Episode Two

So, along with meeting my ‘inner-child’ personified, I will be introducing you to ‘Victoria’, my ‘inner-critic’ personified.

(See why Scott may have been worried about multiple personalities?)

Meet her next Tuesday.

Vicki Lee Victoria - Episode 1

Do you have an inner child?  I do, and she’s actually more of an inner brat than an inner child.  Her name is Vicki Lee.

When I told Scott about Vicki Lee, he understandably got a bit nervous.  I think he may have been concerned that he was about to marry a woman with multiple personalities.  But in reality, I discovered Vicki Lee in my early twenties through Marla Cilley (known to over a million internet users as FlyLady.)  According to FlyLady and her friend Pam Young, our inner brats are like little children who are short on discipline, they’ll run our lives if we let them.  They don’t like rules, they don’t like to eat healthy food, they don’t like chores or homework, and their favourite saying is “I’ll do it later, what’s on TV?”

These ‘inner brats’ make it very difficult to lead successful adult lives, unless you can find a way to tame them.  The first step to taming the ‘inner brat’ is to name her.

When I was a kid, my next-door neighbour Todd used to call me ‘Vicki Lee’ as a short-form of my full name — Victoria Leah (pronounced Lee).  I hated that name, and still do to this day, therefor it was my first and only choice when it came time to name my ‘inner brat’.

In my mind, Vicki Lee has always looked a lot like my real childhood self.  I was pretty geeky.  My hair was usually unbrushed, I had dirty knees, and my clothes never matched.  My mum lovingly called me a ‘ragamuffin’.

A lot has changed in my life, and outwardly I appear to have it all together… but that little girl with the scraped knees still remains.  She’s really quite charming, but she gets in my way an awful lot.  She prefers junk food even though I know that a healthy snack is the smarter choice.  She’d rather watch TV even though I know that working on something productive will be better for me in the long run.  She’d rather leave the dishes till the last minute even though I feel guilty when Scott comes home to a messy house.  I can go on and on.

Just recently I was brainstorming ideas for this blog, and also struggling with actually working instead of surfing the internet for mindless diversion, when I remembered Vicki Lee.  I thought about making a comic strip about her and immediately I had about 20 storylines in my head that actually made me laugh out loud.

So, here she is, introducing Vicki Lee.  She will appear every Tuesday (unless she gets in my way, that is.)

Oh, and by the way, she (like me) really hates being called cute.

Tori Walker Open Book - Vicki Lee Victoria

I’m so sorry!  It’s been a while since I posted.  This weekend I was babysitting two little rugrats.  Incredibly cute rugrats, but they took up a lot of time.  Speaking of which, if you happen to be looking after a 3 year old boy, and are running out of ways to keep him entertained…plop him in front of Cute Overload.  It is delightful to watch.

I’ve also been working on something fun, and you can see the preview above.  Yes, a comic strip!  That’s me up there…more to come!

And now for the Feel Good Wednesday portion of the post…

Hi, I'm Tori, and welcome to my open book. I'm a freelance writer and web designer. This site is my scratch pad for thoughts and ideas, experiences and inspiration. Go ahead, eavesdrop on my life a little bit, you know you want to...
